Fantasy Commissioner Web Frequently Asked Questions
I have a question about your stats for a player
We have a seperate page for stat questions and answers. Click here to jump to that page.
Info on how we process the stats is explained at Stats Explained.
What is the difference between the desktop version and the web version?
The biggest difference is the web version is run strictly from our server, where as the
desktop version is software that you install and run on your computer. With the web
version, you do not have to install anything on your computer. Instead, you access the
software using your web browser. The biggest advantage of the web version over the desktop
version is that the work-load of the commissioner is even less using the web version. This is
because, with the desktop version, the commissioner is the only one who can use the software.
With the web version, every league member who has access to a web browser can use the software.
Your league will have it's own web site, where all owners can enter their lineups, pickup free agents,
create reports, etc. Not only does it make the commissioner's job even easier, but because every
person in the league can interact with the software, it will make your league more enjoyable.
For more info on the advantages/disadvantages between the desktop version and the web version,
What is the cost be for the web version?
The cost is $99.95 per league for up to 20 owners per league (contact us for pricing if you
will have more than 20 owners in your league).
Prior customers who order before August 12th receive a $10 discount.
Is their a renewal discount for customers who purchased the desktop version last year?
Yes. If you purchased the desktop version last year, you are eligible for a $10 discount
if you order before August 12th, so your cost would be $89.95. Just choose 'renewal' pricing when ordering.
The reason that it will cost
more than the desktop version is that the software will be run on our computers, so we must
invest heavily in hardware to make sure our servers do not get overloaded and your
browsing of the web pages is as fast as possible. We would rather be pro-active instead of
re-active, so we purchased more hardware than we anticipate needing.
We also invest heavily in customer support, so you will receive
answers to all of your email's within 24 hours. We usually answer all email's with two hours.
If you use the desktop version to manage your leagues,
and can't get the league members to chip in roughly $3 a piece to move up to the web version and
all it's extra features, your best bet is to stay with the desktop version in order to keep costs down.
If I have two leagues (or more), do I have to pay for each league?
Sorry, you must pay for each league you wish to use. The main
reason for this is that all of the leagues will be run on our servers, so we must invest heavily
in new servers so that all the owners in your league will be able to execute the reports quickly
and make any transactions as quick as possible. We will also purchase enough hardware so we can
make sure we will not have any downtime because of any hardware failures that may occur. So, the
extra cost will result in better service.
We also invest heavily in customer support, so you will receive
answers to all of your email's within 24 hours. We usually answer all email's with two hours.
If you wish to purchase three or more leagues from us, please contact us about volume discounts.
If you use the desktop version to manage your leagues,
and can't get the league members to chip in roughly $3 a piece to move up to the web version and
all it's extra features, your best bet is to stay with the desktop version in order to keep costs down.
Will the web version have all the features of the desktop version?
Currently the web version has about
90% of the functionality of the desktop version. Most of the flexibility in the scoring system that
the desktop version has is in the web version.
Below is a list
of the functions that are not currently in the web version.
Since we will add new features before and during the season, we will update this list whenever
we complete one of the functions:
- Team Efficiency report
- Top Individual Scores report
- Player Situation report
- Individual defensive players
- A few options on some of the reports
- Some Scoring Options: Carry over points for players on a bye, Points for Fantasy Home Team, Award wins for top xx teams
- Scoring Categories: Passing completion %, passing/rushing/receiving averages
- NFL stats for prior years
- NFL Playoff Stats
Any function that is in the desktop version, and is not listed above, means it is already in the web version.
Are there some features in the web version that are not in the desktop version?
Yes, there are many features in the web version that are not in the desktop version. We expect
this list to get bigger each year, as we will concentrate most of our enhancements on the
web version. Some of the features in the web version that are not in the desktop version:
- Real-Time scoring - See the fantasy scoring of any fantasy team while the NFL games are in progress. Scores are updated every 1-5 minutes
- Injury Status - See the injury status of any player (probable, questionable, doubtful, out, I.R.) on many of the screens/reports
- Display YTD Points and Position Rank on the Starting Lineup screen
- Have a new report called Fantasy Teams which shows a teams roster and the week-by-week fantasy schedule (including score)
- The Fantasy Standings report has more columns on it
- The ability to enter your leagues rules and leagues history in a free-form screen
- A message board and chat room
- A Roster Status screen that indicates any fantasy teams that are not in compliance with the league rules (i.e. they have more players on their team than the league maximum)
- Supports trade cost per player
- New scoring categories - Defensive Team: Fumble Forced, Team Loss, Passes Attempted Against, Passes Completed Against, Rushes Against, Return Yards Allowed
- Many more schedule templates (44 total)
- Integrated player news for six sources
- Team and league logo's
- Weather reports
- New reports: NFL Boxscores report, NFL Teams report, Most Added/Dropped, Draft Average, Record Book
- Trading Block feature
- Columns showing what percentage of leagues own as well as start each player
- An on-line draft room
- Access the real-time scoreboard via your PDA or cell phone
- League reports from prior years are automatically archived
Will you still continue to sell the desktop version?
YES! The desktop version will continue as it always has! We will continue to make enhancements to
the desktop version each year. The price of Fantasy Commissioner will be $69.95
for new customers, and $54.95 for repeat customers. Fantasy Commissioner Web is simply another
option that will usually make more sense for your league. However, please note most of our
concentration will be on enhancing Fantasy Commissioner Web instead of Fantasy Commissioner Desktop,
as the web version is by far the best product to use.
Is it possible that the web version will support certain league rules that the desktop version does not?
To create the web version, we had to essentially start from scratch. This meant creating the web version
took a lot more time then if we could of just made modifications to the desktop version. However, one
benefit is that by starting from scratch, we created a more flexible "framework" that will allow us
to support more league rules than the desktop version could.
There are already some rules that the web version has that the desktop does not have.
How are free agent pickups handled with the web version?
The way it works is when the commissioner sets up the league, he will enter an "Add/Drop Deadline"
and a "Add/Drop Start".
As an example, if the commish enters a deadline of Thursday, 11:00pm EST and a start of Tuesday at 11:00am, then each week any owner can
submit a free agent pickup request from Tuesday at 11:00am EST until Thursday at 11:00pm EST. After that, each
owner will be locked out from submitting free agent pickups.
The software will not allow any owner to make pickups from Sunday, 1:00pm EST through Tuesday at 7:00am EST.
When the commish sets up the league, he will also specify whether
he must approve the pickup request. If the commish does not have to approve the pickup request, the free agent is put on the team as soon as the
request is submitted. If the commish must approve the pickup request, then any time after the deadline,
the commish reviews all the pickup requests and either approves or disapproves each one. This will
then allow you to use whatever league rules your league uses to determine who gets a free agent if more
than one owner wants him. For example, if the commish checks all the requests and sees that two owners
want the same player, and your league rules say to give the free agent to the team with the worst record,
the commish can then approve the pickup request for the team with the worst record and disapprove the other.
When an owner selects a free agent to pickup, he also selects a player to drop. If the request is approved,
the free agent is put on the team and the selected player to drop is taken off the team. We
added support to automate some free agent rules via a waiver system (i.e. Worst record has first pick) starting
with the 2005 season. This is explained in more detail here
How are starting lineups handled with the web version?
The way it works is when the commissioner sets up the league, he will enter a "Lineup Deadline".
As an example, if the commish enters a deadline of Saturday, 11:00pm EST, then each week any owner can
enter their lineup from Tuesday at 12:01am EST until Saturday at 11:00pm EST. After that, each
owner will be locked out from entering their lineup.
If you enter a starting lineup deadline of Sunday night or Monday night, owners will be able to select
starters as long as their game has not started. So, owners can change starters for afternoon
games after the morning games have started.
If an owner does not enter a lineup, his lineup
will default to the previous weeks lineup. If games are played earlier in the week (i.e. Thursday),
the owners can make lineup changes up until game time for the players involved in the early games, but the
owners will be unable to make changes to a player involved in the early games once his game starts.
If you would like to make the entire lineup due before the first game of the week, on the League Rules screen check the
box "Kickoff Deadline?". When this is checked, ALL players for ALL games must be started/benched by the kickoff
time of the first game of each week. The Lineup Deadline will be ignored.
Some owners don't have web access or a computer. What about them?
For those owners, the problem is easily solved by having the commissioner obtain their lineups and
free agent requests and entering them into the system. The commissioner has the ability to enter the
lineups for any owner, as well as free agents requests, trades, etc. The commissioner can also print any of the reports
and mail them to these owners.
Can the commish correct lineups or enter free agent requests?
The commish has the ability to enter any owners lineup at any time. He could even go back to a previous
week and correct a starting lineup if need be. The commish also can submit free agent requests or trades for any
owner, as well as go back to any past week and enter a free agent request or a trade.
How do owners access the league web site?
All owners sign on at the
Team Login page
To have your owners access your league, you will need to create usernames and
passwords for them via the "owners" link under "league office", or give them the league
name and league password, and have them use Option 1 on the login page.
Once they log on,
they will go to your leagues web site, where they will have access to create and view all the reports. They will
also have access to screens to add/drop players, enter their starting lineup, conduct trades,
and change their owner info. They will not be able to get into any of the administration
screens, which are for use only by the commissioner. They will not be able to make any
roster changes to any of the other fantasy teams, only theirs.
What powers do the commish have that the owners do not?
The person designated as the commissioner of the league will have a username and password just
like the other owners, except the commissioner will have access to a number of screens that
the other owners will not. These commish-only screens give the commissioner the ability to
enter the leagues rules, divisions, owners, fantasy teams, fantasy schedule, player positions,
scoring system, and scoring options. The commish also can add, drop, and trade players
from any fantasy team for any week, as well as change starting lineups. This gives the commish
the ability to make modifications for any owner who can't access the web site. The commish
also has access to a screen to approve/decline any submitted transactions by the other
owners. Finally, the commish has access to screens to enter money transactions,
choose the winner in the case of a tied fantasy game, and a screen to enter commissioner
notes that will appear on the first screen the owners see after they login.
How do we enter our draft results into the system? Can we conduct an on-line live draft?
You can use our draft desktop software, PEDS, to enter your draft.
More info on PEDS can be found here.
PEDS works great for those drafts where everyone will be in one room for an offline draft.
You can then transfer the draft results from PEDS to Fantasy Commissioner Web via the
"Export Draft Results" option on the Database Tools menu in PEDS. To enter the draft results manually,
the commish can go to the "League Office" menu, choose
"Add/Drop Player", and choose the players for each fantasy team from a player list
(make sure to set the pickup price to $0 on this screen). This usually takes 15-20
minutes to enter 18-player rosters for a 10-team league.
We also have
an online draft module in Fantasy Commissioner Web where each owner can enter his picks on-line
when his turn comes up and the draft module will coordinate the draft, much like PEDS does.
The draft module also allows the commissioner
to enter all the draft picks for all the owners,
or the commish could enter just some of the picks for owners that are missing.
Do you have real-time stats?
Yes! We have real-time stats that are updated every 1-3 minutes.
How are trades handled with the web version?
The way it works is when the commissioner sets up the league, he will enter a "Trading Deadline" and
he will also indicate whether the commissioner needs to approve all trades. The trading deadline
can be any date, and owners will be locked out from making trades after that date.
Any owner who wishes to make a trade will go to the web site and select the team he wishes to trade with.
The owner will then select the players from his team that he wants to trade, along with the
players from the other team that he wants to receive. The other team will then be notified via the
web site that another owner has requested a trade with him, and that other owner can either decline or
accept the trade. If he declines the trade, the
other owner will be notified that his trade was declined. If he accepts the trade, the players
will then automatically be traded if the commish indicated that he does not have to approve trades.
If the commish indicated that he must approve trades, then the trade will be submitted for approval
to the commish. If the commish approves it, then the players will be traded. If he disapproves,
the owners involved in the trade will be notified that their trade has been disapproved.
Do you have a demo of the web version that I can check out?
You bet. Go to our View Sample League web page, which will allow you to see all the
reports, owner screens, and commissioner screens. It is a demo of one of our leagues
that used the web version for the 2005 season.
Do you have a message board facility?
Yes. On the home page of your leagues web site, there is an area that contains messages
from the commissioner. We also have another area where any owner can post a message
for everyone to see.
Some of my league members are not very computer literate. Will it be easy to use?
It will be real easy to use. An owner will go to the site www.webleaguemananger.com, click on the
"Login here" link, and enter his username and password and click the "Login" button, where he
will then be taken to your leagues home page. To set his lineup, he clicks on the link
"Manage Team", then clicks the link "Starting Lineup", and he will see a list of all his players.
Next to each player, he selects "Starter" from a list if he wants to start the player. When he is
done, he clicks a "Save" button. That is it. Adding and dropping players and making trades is just
as easy. Also, there will be a list of reports, and all the owner needs to do is click the link of the report
he wants to see and it will be created. Very simple.
Will you have ads on all the web pages used by Fantasy Commissioner Web?
We will NOT have ads on any of the web pages used by Fantasy Commissioner Web! Our concern
with having ads on the pages would be that it would slow down your experience, and that is
something we want to avoid. Without ads, all the web pages will display as fast as possible.
Will the web version support our league rules and scoring system?
The web version will support most of the league rules and scoring rules that the desktop version does.
You can view the supported scoring categories here.
Sorry, but we do not have the ability to transfer your leagues rules and scoring system from the desktop
version to the web version.
Can I customize our leagues web site?
Sorry, there is not a way to customize your league.
How do I enter my leagues rules for determining which teams get into the playoffs?
Instead of trying to have Fantasy Commissioner support every leagues' rules for determining who
gets into the playoffs, we let you figure out the playoff teams. Then, you enter the
playoff schedule just like you enter the schedule for the regular games.
You do this by going to the Fantasy Schedule screen under League Office, choosing the
appropriate week, and clicking the New button to enter each playoff game. After
the playoff games are over for the first week, you will then go back to the
Fantasy Schedule screen and enter the playoff games for the next week.
How can other people view my league?
To have other people view the Fantasy Standings report for your league, give them the following link:
http://www.webleaguemanager.com/reports/fantasystandingsrpt2.asp?lid=xxx
where xxx is your league ID (which you can find on your leagues home page)
To have them view the Real-time Scoreboard for your league, give them the following link:
http://www.webleaguemanager.com/reports/RealTimeScoreboardRpt2.asp?lid=xxx
where xxx is your league ID (which you can find on your leagues home page)
If I used Fantasy Commissioner Web last year, do I have to enter my leagues rules again?
No, you do not have to re-enter your league rules, as all of your league information from last year will be saved. Please do not create a new league.
You will simply login as you did this year. If you forget your username or password, go to
http://www.webleaguemanager.com/forgot.asp
to have it emailed to you. All of the owners should use the same username and passwords as last season.
Your league will be converted in late June/early July to work for the 2008 season.
The following reports will automatically be saved each year to an archive section that can be viewed at any time:
Fantasy Standings, Final Fantasy Rosters, Week-by-Week Results, Record Book, Draft Summary, Money Transaction Report,
Top Players Report. However, if there are any other reports you want to keep, please print those reports
before July 1st as those reports will be reset after that date. All the rosters
from all the fantasy teams will be cleared. We will also be deleting all the scores and all the transactions,
meaning any reports with results, transactions or rosters will be empty.
If any owners or scoring rules have changed, simply go to the appropriate screen
to make the changes.
How do I give a defensive team points for a shutout?
To give points to the defense for a shutout, choose the "TEAM - Points Allowed" category, choose the "Range" scoring method, and enter the following in the grid:
0 - 0 x points
How can I verify that I entered my leagues scoring system correctly?
There is a feature under league office called "Scoring Test" that will allow you to
verify your scoring system by calculating the fantasy points for any player for any
week of the 2004 season. Please test a number of players to make sure you have
entered your scoring system correctly. Also, you can use the "Test Scoring" link
on the Scoring System screen to test each scoring category.
We use one team for special teams and defense. Can I set up the software to combine them? Or do I have to list them separately and put the same team in for both?
The software has a defensive team position, and a special teams position. However, if your league combines the two, you only need to place the defensive team on a fantasy team because you can set up the scoring on a defensive team to score defensive scores and special teams scores. So, on the Player Positions screen you should enter zeroes in all the columns for the special team position.
How do I prevent a player from being dropped from a roster when a free-agent pickup request is made? The player should only be dropped after I approve the request.
You need to go to your League Rules page and check the "approval required" for drops so a player is not dropped when a request is made. You would then approve or decline the add/drop combination.
Why is the fantasy point total under the real-time scoring different from the fantasy point total on the Weekly Results report?
The main reason you will see a point differential between the live stats and the final, official stats is that the NFL sometimes makes corrections hours after the game ends. The real-time scoring screen will not show those corrections, but the final stats will.
We use a flex position. How do I handle that?
You should increase the "max # can start" column by one for each position that the "flex" position can be. For example, if your league requires two starting RB's and WR's, and the flex position can be a RB or WR, you should set the "min # can start" to 2 and the "max # can start" to 3 for the RB and WR.
We have some team owners who are no longer with us. How do we delete them and add the new owners?
To replace owners, go to the League Office menu and choose "Owners". Then select each owner to delete and hit the "Delete" button. Then go to the "Fantasy Teams" link and delete the fantasy teams for each of the owners that were deleted. Then go back to the "Owners" link, and hit the "New" button and you will be able to create a new owner and his fantasy team.
I have an owner taking over a team from another user. How should I handle this?
You have two choices:
1) Delete the old owner and his fantasy team, then create a new owner and fantasy team (see previous question).
This is the recommended option if the season has not started yet. If you use this option after the season has started,
you will need to re-enter the roster and starting lineup of the team you deleted.
2) Modify the old owner info with the new owner info. Note that you can modify all the old owners info except for the username. Then modify the old fantasy team info with the new fantasy team info
This is the recommended option if the season has already started.
I am going to create more than one league, can I use the same username/password for all leagues?
You can use the same username and password for each league. On the team login page at
http://www.webleaguemanager.com/login.asp
choose "I DO NOT HAVE an account and wish to join or create a league" to create your first league. To create the other leagues, choose "I HAVE an account and wish to join or create a league. You will then have the same username and password for all leagues.
And after you login, on the league home page you can switch between any of the leagues by choosing the league you wish to jump to in the drop-down list and clicking the "Switch Leagues" button.
Some screens are not updating after I make a change. How do I fix that?
If you find that screens are not updating after you make a change
(for example, you change a starter on the Starting Lineup screen and hit the Save button,
but the screen does not change to show the new starter), make the following changes depending
on the browser you are using to fix this problem:
On the Internet Explorer menu, click "Tools", then click "Internet Options". Under
"Temporary Internet Files", click the "Settings" button. On the option
"Check for newer versions of stored pages", change it to "Every visit to the page".
On the Netscape menu, click "Edit", then click "Preferences". Expand the
"Advanced" category and select "Cache". Change the "Document in cache is compared
to document on network" to "Every time".
Our league will have a new commissioner this year. How do we give that person commish privileges?
If there will be a new commissioner for your league, the commish can go to the "Change Commish" screen on
the League Office menu and transfer commissioner privileges to another person in your league.
How can I chat with other owners?
On the 'Account Info' screen under the Manage Team menu, enter your AOL Instant Messaging (IM) Username. If an
owner has an AOL IM Username entered, you will be able to click on that owners name next to the "Owners currently
logged in" on the league home page and instantly chat with that owner. Also, there is a "click to IM" link on the
Fantasy Team report that will appear next to those owners who have entered an AOL IM Username.
In order for you to be able to chat, you must install AOL's Instant Messaging (IM), available
at www.aim.com. Not this does not require you to be using AOL's ISP service - anyone can download the AOL IM software.
Finally, in the
draft room and on the League Chat link on the main menu, you will be able to chat with all the other owners at
once (this does not require AOL IM).
For the 2005 season, we added a chat room that does not require AOL IM. Click "League Chat" on the main menu
to access this room.
Can I view the real-time scores via my cell phone or PDA?
Yes. You can access the real-time scoreboard and boxscores via your PDA or cell phone via http://www.webleaguemanager.com/wireless/
This is a specially formatted report designed to be readable on a small screen.
Why is the Fantasy Standings report not updating?
The fantasy standings only include the games from the regular season - they do not include playoff games.
The standings will not update if you are in a playoff week. If you still want them to update, you need to
go to the League Rules screen and change your regular season weeks to this past week or later, then go to the
Recalc Scores screen and recalc the scores for this past week.
I thought I made changes to my starting lineup, but they did not seem to take. How can I check this?
If you go to the Lineup Transaction report, you can see all the starting lineup changes that were made for the
week. When on the Starting Lineup screen, to verify that your lineup was saved, after you hit the Save button
make sure you see a message in bold that says "Your starting lineup has been changed". Also, go to the
Starting Lineup report and verify that your lineup is correct.
Why is the Fantasy Standings report not displaying the teams with the best record first?
You need to go the League Rules page and change "Standings 1st Sort" to "Overall Record".
If we don't use the online draft room, is there a way to put in the draft results instead of just adding all the players to each roster?
Yes. You can do this by setting up the draft, then go to the Draft Room. As the commissioner, you can enter all the
picks for each owner. So just enter the results in the order that the real picks were made.
Can I view reports from last season?
Yes! If you used Fantasy Commissioner Web last season, many of the
reports from that season were automatically saved and can be viewed by
going to the menu option Reports - League - Archive. Also saved were
the reports from the 2004 season. Each season the reports will
automatically be saved in this section shortly after the season ends.
