Duties of an Owner

Owner/Fantasy Team Creation

If you commissioner has already given you a username and password, then your owner account and fantasy team has already been created. Just go to the League Logon web page and logon. If the commissioner has not created your account, then you will need to create an account or use an account that your previously created (if you have joined another Fantasy Commissioner Web league). You will need to get your leagues password from your commissioner in order to join the league. Once you have that, go to the League Logon web page. If you do not have an account, click the "I do not have an account and wish to join or create a league" button. A "New Account Setup" page will be displayed where you will create an account for yourself by entering info about yourself, and choosing a username and password that you will use to logon to your leagues web site. If you already have an account, click the "I have an account and wish to join or create a league". You will then be prompted to enter the username and password of your account.

Once you create an account or enter the username and password of an existing account, a "Choose League" screen will display. Choose the "Join Existing League" option, select your league name for the drop-down list, and enter the league password given to you by the commissioner. Also, enter the Fantasy Team Name that you will use, and then click the OK button. Your account will be created, your fantasy team will be created, and you will then proceed to the home page of your leagues web site.

Add/Drop Players

Owners can use these screen to pickup free agents as well as drop players from their team. If the commissioner has indicated in the league rules that pickups and drops require commissioner approval, then any add and drops will be submitted to the commissioner and not executed unless the commissioner approves the add/drop. Also, the commissioner can specify an add/drop deadline, and owners will be locked out from submitting add/drops after the deadline. As an example, if the commish enters a deadline of Thursday, 11:00pm EST, then each week any owner can submit a free agent pickup request from Tuesday at 7:00am EST until Thursday at 11:00pm EST. After that, each owner will be locked out from submitting free agent pickups. If the commish does not have to approve the pickup request, the free agent is put on the team as soon as the request is submitted. If the commish must approve the pickup request, then any time after the deadline, the commish reviews all the pickup requests and either approves or disapproves each one. This will then allow you to use whatever league rules your league uses to determine who gets a free agent if more than one owner wants him. For example, if the commish checks all the requests and sees that two owners want the same player, and your league rules say to give the free agent to the team with the worst record, the commish can then approve the pickup request for the team with the worst record and disapprove the other. When an owner selects a free agent to pickup, he also selects a player to drop. If the request is approved, the free agent is put on the team and the selected player to drop is taken off the team.

You can enter a note to the commissioner when submitting the add/drop request. This is useful if you want to submit multiple requests and want to let the commissioner know the order of priority of the requests. For example, say your league rules award free agents to the team with the worst record if two or more teams want the same player. So, you can submit a request with the note that this request is your first choice. If you think that the player you want may be requested by other owners and you don't have the worst reecord, you should submit another request for a different free agent with the note that if you don't get the first request, then process this second request.

In most cases, if you want more than one free agent, you should submit multiple requests. For example, if you want two free agents (Jones and Freeman) and want to drop Lee and Smith, you should submit two requests: one request to pickup Jones and drop Lee, another request to pickup Freeman and drop Smith. This way, if other owners want the same players and your league rules are such that you wind up only able to get one of the players, the commish can decline one of your requests and approve the other. If you had only submitted one request for both free agents, then the commish would have to decline the request and you would have to submit another request for the one free agent you are allowed to pickup.

Submitting Starting Lineups

Owners use this screen to enter their starting lineups each week. When the commissioner sets up the league, he will enter a "Lineup Deadline". As an example, if the commish enters a deadline of Saturday, 11:00pm EST, then each week any owner can enter their lineup from Tuesday at 7:00am EST until Saturday at 11:00pm EST. After that, each owner will be locked out from entering their lineup. If an owner does not enter a lineup, his lineup will default to the previous weeks lineup. If games are played earlier in the week (i.e. Thursday), the owners can make lineup changes up until game time for the players involved in the early games, but the owners will be unable to make changes to a player involved in the early games once his game starts. If you have not entered enough players at any of the positions (based on your league rules), then messages will display on the right side of this screen which indicate how many additional starters you need. If you try and enter more starters at any position than allowed, you will see an error message after you press the save key, and you will not be allowed to save your starting lineup.

Entering Trades

Owners use this screen to submit trades to other owners. When the commissioner sets up the league, he will enter a "Trading Deadline" and he will also indicate whether the commissioner needs to approve all trades. The trading deadline can be any date, and owners will be locked out from making trades after that date. Any owner who wishes to make a trade will use this screen and select the team he wishes to trade with. The owner will then select the players from his team that he wants to trade, along with the players from the other team that he wants to receive. The other team will then be notified via the web site that another owner has requested a trade with him, and that other owner can either decline or accept the trade. If he declines the trade, the other owner will be notified that his trade was declined. If he accepts the trade, the players will then automatically be traded if the commish indicated that he does not have to approve trades. If the commish indicated that he must approve trades, then the trade will be submitted for approval to the commish. If the commish approves it, then the players will be traded. If he disapproves, the owners involved in the trade will be notified that their trade has been disapproved.

Transactions (Review/Approve/Decline)

Owners use this screen to view transactions that where approved, declined, or submitted. Note that you will only see transactions for the current week, concerning your team, on this screen. To view all the approved transactions for all the teams for all weeks, check out the Player Transactions report. Here is an explanation of each category that you can choose to view:
  • Submitted - If you submitted a free agent pickup and drop, and the commissioner has not approved/declined it yet, it will appear under this category. This only applies if your league has been setup such that the commissioner must approve any free agent pickup or drop. Any trades that you submit will also show up in this category just like the free agent pickups and drops. If another owner has submitted a trade request to you, it will show up in the category, and you will have the option of approving it or declining it.
  • Approved - Any of your free agent pickups and drops that where approved by the commissioner will show up in this category. If you submit a free agent pickup and drop that does not require commissioner approval, it will automatically be approved and it will show up in this category. If you submitted a trade request, and the other approved it (and the commissioner approved it if needed), it will show up in this category. Any trades submitted to you that you approved will also show in this category.
  • Declined - Any free agent pickups and drops that the commissioner declined will show up in this category. Any trades that you submitted that where declined by the other owner, or that where declined by the commissioner, will show up in this category. Any trades submitted to you that you declined will also show in this category.
  • All - This category will show all submitted, approved, and declined transactions.

Account Info

Use this screen to change your address, email, phone number, or login password. Note that your username is permanent - you can't change it.

Duties of a Commissioner

League Creation

The first step in creating a new league is to go to the League Logon web page and click on the "Create New Account" button. A "New Account Setup" page will be displayed where you will create an account for yourself by entering info about yourself, and choosing a username and password that you will use to logon to your leagues web site. Your account will be giving commissioner privileges, and you will be the only one allowed to setup and modify any of the league information. Once you create an account, a "Choose League" screen will display. Since you are creating a new league, choose the option "Create New League" and hit the OK button. Your league will then be created, and you will process to a screen where you can enter all the League Rules.

League Rules

This web page allows you to enter the rules for your league. Each field on this screen has a comment next to it, explaining what to enter. Here is some futher clarification on some of the fields:
  • Trade Deadline - The owners will be locked out from submitting trades once this deadline passes. However, the commissioner will be allowed to enter trades after this date if needed by using the Entering Trades screen.
  • Lineup Deadline - The owners will be locked out from entering their lineup once this deadline passes. However, the commissioner will be allowed to enter lineups after this deadline if needed by using the Submitting Starting Lineups screen.
  • Add/Drop Deadline - The owners will be locked out from dropping or picking up players once this deadline passes. However, the commissioner will be allowed to add and drop playres after this date if needed by using the Add/Drop Players screen.
As an example, if the commish enters a deadline of Thursday, 11:00pm EST, then each week any owner can submit a free agent pickup request from Tuesday at 7:00am EST until Thursday at 11:00pm EST. After that, each owner will be locked out from submitting free agent pickups. On this League Rules screen, you can specify whether you must approve each pickup request.

Division Setup

Use this screen to enter all the division names in your league. By default, one division is created when you setup your league, with the division name of "Main". You can change the name of this division, but you should not delete it, as your league should have at least on division.

Owner Setup

When you created your league, an owner record was automatically created for you. Use this screen to create owner records for all the other members in your league. However, you have two choices for setting up all the owners:
1) You can use this screen to create an account for each owner. You specify the username and password for each owner, which you should then give to each owner (make sure that you give each owner only their username and password and not the usernames and passwords of the other owners). You can optionally fill out the address info for each owner, or have each owner enter this info via the Account Info screen after they logon. When creating a new owner, you will also need to enter the owners fantasy team name and choose the division the fantasy team is in. If the owner wants to have his team name changed, the commissioner can change it using the Team Setup screen.
2) Don't use this screen at all. Instead, have each owner create their own account as explained in the Owner/Fantasy Team Creation screen. If any of the owners already have an account (they are in another league that uses Fantasy Commissioner Web), you should not create an account for those owners. Instead, have them follow the directions in the Owner/Fantasy Team Creation screen to join the league.

Team Setup

Use this screen to change a fantasy teams name or division. You can also use this screen to delete a fantasy team. You may have only one owner per fantasy team, and you cannot create a fantasy team using this screen - you must use the Owner Setup screen because an owner must be created along with the fantasy team. In a future version, we will allow multiple owners per team, and we will allow you to create a fantasy team without assigning an owner to that team until later.

Fantasy Schedule Setup

This screen allows you to create the fantasy schedule. You can enter your schedule manually. Or, you can use the 'Create Schedule Using Template' button that has over 20 templates that you can use to automatically create your schedule.

Player Position Setup

Use this screen to specify what positions you league uses, as well as the min/max number of players at each position that can be on a team, and the min/max that your league can start at each position. If your league does not use a position, enter a zero in the "Max # can have on team" column. If your league does not have a limit on how many players in each position that can be on a team, just specify the max number of players that can be on a team in all the "Max # can have on team" fields.

Scoring System Setup

This screen is where you enter your league's scoring system. To set up a scoring rule, first choose the position that the rule will apply to. Then pick a scoring category. If there is currently a scoring rule for the choosen scoring category for the selected position, it will be displayed. If not, the Scoring Method field will display "None Defined". To enter a scoring rule for the selected position/scoring category, choose a scoring method.
The four possible scoring methods:
  • None Defined - This means the scoring rule is not defined. All the scoring categories default to this. If you setup a scoring rule and then later want to delete it, just set the scoring category to None Defined
  • Points Per Each - Use this scoring method to give points for each occurance of a stat. For example, 3 points for a passing TD, 6 points for a receiving TD, 1 point for each rushing attempt, 2 points for each receiving two-points convertion, etc.
  • Incremental - This scoring method allows you to give points whenever a set incremental level is reached for a stat. For example, 1 point for every 20 yards passing, 1 point for every 10 yards rushing, 1 point for every 5 rushing attempts, etc. Using the above examples, assume that a player's stats for a game are 2 passing TD's, 312 yards passing, and 32 yards rushing. He receives 12 fantasy points for the passing TD's (2 * 6 = 12), 15.6 fantasy points for the passing yardage (312 / 20 = 15.6), and 3.2 fantasy points for the rushing yards (32 / 10), for a total of 30.8 (12 + 15.6 + 3.2 = 30.8).
  • Range - Use this option if you award points based on bonus performance (i.e., you award fantasy points based on the length of a TD, or you award points based on reaching yardage milestones in a game). A bonus performance based scoring system would, for example, award 3 points on a rushing TD if it were between 1-20 yards, it would award 4 points if the TD were between 21-50 yards, and 5 points if it were greater than 50 yards. Another example, using passing yardage for an entire game, would award 0 points if a player were to pass for fewer than 200 yards, 5 points were he to pass for between 200-250 yards, and 10 points were his passing total to exceed 250 yards. A final example, this one using rushing attempts, would be to award 1 point for 1-5 attempts in a game, 2 points for 6-10 attempts, 3 points for 11-20 attempts, and 5 points for more than 20 attempts. When choosing this option, you will see a spreadsheet-like table where you may enter the fantasy scoring for the selected stat. Click on the "New Row" button to add additional rows to the table. There are three column headings: "Starting Value," "Ending Value," and "Points." Enter the fantasy points awarded if the stat for a game is in a given range (inclusive). With passing yards, for example, in the first row, entering 1 in the starting value column, 199 in the ending value column, and 5 in the points column will award a player 5 fantasy points if he passes between 1 and 199 yards in a game. In the second row of the table, entering 200 in the starting value column and 299 in the ending value column and 10 in the points column will award a player 10 fantasy points if he passes for between 200 and 299 yards in a game. Continue until you enter all possible fantasy values for a given stat. It is not necessary to enter a value for those ranges receiving 0 points. If a player receives a stat not found in any of the scoring ranges, he will receive 0 fantasy points for that stat.
Auto-Populate Grid Button – This button will help simplify the entering of a level-based scoring system. Clicking on this button will prompt you to fill out a screen with info about your league rules for the selected stat category. Based on your responses, the grid will automatically be filled with the scoring ranges for the current stat category. Use this button to speed-up the entry of your leagues scoring rules.

There is a "Copy to all positions" button: If players are awarded the same number of points regardless of NFL position, just enter the scoring system for one position. Then, click the "Copy to all positions" button to copy the scoring system for the current position to all the other positions.

To see the scoring rules already entered, check out the Scoring System report.

NOTE: The Defensive team can be used as a Defensive Team/Special Team combination. If that is what your league uses, just set up the DT position to also get points for special team scores. Do not indicate in the Player Positions screen that you are using a ST position.

Scoring Options Setup

Use this screen to enter any rules that apply to your league:

Fantasy Points - Decimals - Choose the number of decimals to use for fantasy points.
Fantasy Points - Rounding – Indicate how fantasy points will be rounded. This rounding will take place when calculating the weekly points for a player or defensive team. EXAMPLE: In a league that gives 1 point per 10 yards, with no partial points (i.e. 19 yards equals only 1 point), you should choose 'None' for decimals, and 'Always Round Down' for rounding.
Score negative yardage – Check this box if your league rules subtract fantasy points from a player if that player gets negative yardage. For example, if your league gives 1 point per 10 rushing yards, and a player gets minus-five rushing yards, he will have half-a-point taken away from his fantasy point total if this box is checked. Otherwise, he would not lose any fantasy points.
Tight Ends are equivalent to Wide Receivers - Check this box if your league combines Tight Ends with Wide Receivers

Add/Drop Players

As the commissioner, you have the ability to add and drop players from any team. You can do this for the current week, or for any past week. This is useful if you have owners who do not have web access, and you want to enter the free agent moves for them. This is also useful for correcting any mistakes that where made in previous weeks in adding or dropping players. You can also use this screen to enter the initial rosters for all the owners after your draft has been completed. To avoid giving pickup fees to owners while entering the initial rosters, just go to the League Rules screen and enter a zero for the Pickup Price, then enter all the rosters, then go back to the League Rules screen and enter the Pickup Price.

Submitting Starting Lineups

As the commissioner, you have the ability to change a starting lineup for any team. You can do this for the current week, or for any past week. This is useful if you have owners who do not have web access, and you want to enter the starting lineup for them. This is also useful for correcting any mistakes that where made in previous weeks in entering the starting lineups.

Entering Trades

As the commissioner, you have the ability to enter trades for any of the teams. You can do this for the current week, or for any past week. This is useful if you have owners who do not have web access, and you want to enter the trades for them. This is also useful for correcting any mistakes that where made in previous weeks in entering trades.

Transactions (Review/Approve/Decline)

This is the screen that the commissioner uses to approve or decline all transactions submitted to the commissioner. In the League Rules screen, the commissioner can specify that any free agent pickups, drops, or trades must be approved by the commissioner. If so, then the commissioner goes to the screen and can select any of the following categories:
  • Submitted - All free agent pickups, drops, and trades will be listed in this category, waiting for the commissioner to approve or decline them.
  • Approved - Any transactions that was approved by the commissioner will be show here. Also, any transactions that do not require the commissioner approval and where submitted by an owner and automatically approved will show here. For any approved transaction, you can modify the cost of the transaction for any team you wish. Just click on the "Change" button next to the team of the cost you wish to change. This is useful if you wish to modify the default cost of a transaction. For example, if your league requires two teams who want the same player to bid on that player, the commissioner can then enter the amount of the winning bid after he approves the transactions for the winner bidder. Another example would be if two teams made a trade and part of the trade involved one bidder paying the other owners cost of the trade.
  • Declined - Any transactions that the commissioner declined will show in this category. Also, any trades that an owner submitted, but was declined by the other owner, will show here.
  • All - This option will show all the submitted, approved, and declined transactions.

Entering Money Transactions

When you setup your league using the League Rules screen, you where able to enter default amounts for each transaction. You can also modify the cost of transactions using the Transactions screen. However, there may be times when you want to enter additional money transactions, and that is what this screen is for. For example, you can use this screen to enter your leagues entry fee, track payments made for the high score each week, enter fees for submitting a late lineup, etc.

Breaking Ties

If your league does not allow ties in any of the fantasy games, use this screen to enter the winner of the tied game. Instead of trying to support all the different league rules for determining the winner of a tied game, we simplified it by letting the commissioner determine the winner based on their league rules, and then using this screen to indicate which team won.

Entering Home Page Messages

Use this screen to enter any messages that you want displayed on your leagues home page. Use it to remind owners if there are early games, upcoming deadlines, smack talking, league newsletter, etc.

Reports

Printing Reports

There is a Print button on all the reports. When you click on this button, it will NOT send the report to your printer.
